Activities
The Regimental Association began as an organization for returning veterans during World War
II. By 1943, members of the 1 st Battalion, The Royal Regiment of Canada began to arrive home
from deployment overseas. These soldiers began to meet informally in order to preserve
friendships, and keep up to date on the status of soldiers still deployed overseas. A permanent
Executive was formed, and regular meetings were held in various veterans’ clubs through
Toronto. These meetings would later transition to being held at Fort York Armoury in The Royal
Regiment of Canada’s Warrant Officers’ and Sergeants’ Mess. A President and other Executive
Officers were elected, and objectives and aims of the Regimental Association were established.
This included supporting the 2 nd Battalion, The Royal Regiment of Canada, and to preserve the
records and memoires of the regiment and the units that it perpetuates. The Regimental
Association raised money to support these initiatives through gifts, donations, and other
fundraising activities. After World War II, the Regimental Association continued to expand, and
it was decided to formalize the organization.

membership
The membership has changed considerably since the days when only Active soldiers and Veterans were members. Today, many widows, sons & and daughters of Veterans are members and are proud to support the Regiment. There are also many former members who are currently members of other Branches of the Canadian Forces. From a high of over 2,500 members in the 1960s, we are now holding strong at more than 1,000. This is one of the largest Reserve Regimental Associations in Canada.
